HOW TO COMMISSION A PAINTING OR DRAWING
1 CONTACT ME
Send me a message via my CONTACT PAGE letting me know what you’d like me to paint or draw for you. I will get back to you within 24 hours (usually much sooner!) I will let you know the timescale for completing your commission depending on the number of commissions I am currently working on.
2 AGREE TIMESCALE AND DECIDE ON THE COMPOSITION
If the timescale is acceptable to you, you can then email me some photos of the subject you’d like me to paint, or just describe what you want, and I will provide you with a couple of quick “thumbnail sketches” (sent to you by email or posted online) of possible compositions to choose from. (If you want to discuss the commission over the phone, we can arrange to do that too.)
If required, I will offer some guidance on the most suitable format (landscape or portrait), sizes and which medium (Oil, Acrylic or Watercolour) would be most suitable for the subject.
3 DEPOSIT
If you’re happy to go ahead with an agreed composition, then I will take a 50% non-refundable deposit and get started on your painting or drawing.
4 COMPLETION OF THE COMMISSION AND DELIVERY
Once I have completed your commission, I will send you a photo of the completed artwork by email or post it online to Pinterest or Instagram. If you’re happy with the result, you will then pay the remaining 50% of the price and I will package your painting securely and arrange delivery to you via the Royal Mail parcel service. (The prices quoted above include all delivery and insurance charges).
Note: Oil and Acrylic commissions will be painted on canvas and varnished on completion. Oils take up to 6 months to dry properly and will be varnished once the drying period is completed. Watercolours will be painted on heavy duty watercolour paper such as 140lb Bockingford paper or heavier. Acrylics and oils can also be painted on Gesso primed board if required. Drawings can be done on a variety of surfaces including Ingres paper, Cartridge paper or a good quality paper such as Saunders Waterford, Fabriano or Bockingford paper.
Crisp, clear, sharp images with good detail, lighting and colour will help me create the most attractive painting or drawing for you.
It’s often helpful if you can take several photos of the same scene or subject, at different times of day or in different lighting conditions.
It’s also useful to take some close ups using the zoom on your camera.
It’s best to send photos at full resolution if possible. (Some email providers restrict the size of photo you can send, in which case you would need to use cloud based storage such as Dropbox. I can help you with this if necessary.)
